I’m trying to learn Japanese as an hobby.. Here’s an interesting sentence: スプーンが ない
スプーン supuun
が ga
ない nai
If I’ve learned the lesson right が (ga) is a nominative marker, which makes スプーン the subject of the sentence. Therefore, we are saying something about spoon. The ない (nai) suffix is the negative form of the verb. This is interesting, because the verb (and it’s negation) is expressed differently between animated (i nai) and inanimated (nai) subjects. If instead of spoon I would be talking about a dog, then saying “There is no dog” would be いぬ が い な い, where, of course, いぬ (i nu) means dog.
